Position "Р" – parking ("Parking")

In this position back wheels are fixed. The automatic transmission is blocked by the ratchet mechanism, to its not allowing shaft to rotate. Installation of the lever of a gear change in position "Р" is possible only at the motionless car.

Position "R" – a backing

Installation of the lever of a gear change in position "R" is possible only at the motionless car. Even at very small speed of movement it is necessary to stop the car and only then to include backing transfer.
The prevention

It is impossible to try to rearrange the gear change lever in position "R" at car movement forward and in position "1", "2", "3" or "D" at car movement back.


Position "N" – neutral position

In this position of the lever of a gear change the drive is disunited. The working engine does not actuate the car. The engine carburettor is equipped by the automatic starting arrangement which after its start supports the accelerated idling of the engine during its warming up.

At installation of the lever of a gear change from position "N" in position "1", "2", "3", "D" or "R" the car tends to move a little. Therefore before installation of the lever of a gear change in one of these positions it is necessary to press a brake pedal.

Position "D" – an automatic gear change at advance

At a finding of the lever of a gear change in this position the car begins movement on 1st transfer, and switching on 2nd, 3rd and 4th transfers occurs automatically depending on speed of movement of the car, and also level of opening throttle заслонки (positions of a pedal of an accelerator). The Gear change on lower occurs also automatically. Pressing of a pedal of an accelerator against the stop and its deduction in this position during a short time interval (kick-down) causes, depending on speed of movement, switching from 3rd transfer on 2nd or with 2nd on 1st, i.e. on lower transfer.

In the course of engine warming up when it works with the raised number of turns of idling, the car tends to slow троганию from a place at installation of the lever of a gear change in position "1", "2", "3", "D" or "R". This tendency decreases in process of warming up of the engine and reduction of number of turns of its idling. Therefore at engine warming up before installation of the lever of a gear change in one of aforementioned positions it is recommended to press a pedal of a brake or to tighten the lever of a manual brake.

Position "2" – an automatic gear change with 1st on 2nd and back

The car begins movement on 1st transfer and during movement there is an automatic switching only on 2nd transfer. 3rd transfer does not join. Position "2" is recommended to be used during long-term descents from heights as in this position probably enough intensive braking by the engine and, thus, brakes are preserved against excessive heating.

Position "1" – 1st transfer is constantly included

The car starts to move on 1st transfer and there is no gear change on more higher. Position "1" is recommended to be used during descents from abrupt heights, as at this position, probably, very intensive braking by the engine. Moving of the lever of a gear change to position "1" during movement on 3rd transfer causes transfer switching on 2nd. Switching on 1st transfer will occur only when speed of movement will fall to 20–40 km/h.

During movement at the gear change lever established in position "D" installation on 1st transfer is possible at once provided that speed of movement of the car makes 30–50 km/h. It demands pressing of a pedal of an accelerator against the stop.

Use of a compulsory reduction of transfers (kick-down)

Pressing of a pedal of an accelerator against the stop does possible sharp acceleration during movement downhill or overtaking (except stipulated above cases of braking by the engine). At installation of the lever of a gear change in position "D" there is an automatic switching of transfer from the higher transfer on the lowest. The described actions can be applied it is unique in a corresponding range of speed of movement of the car.
