14.9.3. Malfunctions of a starter

THE GENERAL DATA

At inclusion of a starter the starter electric motor does not work

Failure of a starter or the traction relay, and also defect in wires can be the reasons of it.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. For failure detection at first it is necessary to check up pressure presence on the plug 50 traction relays. 2. Absence of pressure at starter inclusion testifies to damage of an electric chain, and in the presence of pressure – about malfunction of the traction relay or a starter. 3. If at inclusion of a starter pressure moves on the traction relay, but it does not work (there is no characteristic click), means the traction relay (breakage of a winding or its short circuit on weight) is faulty. 4. Presence of characteristic click of operation of the traction relay testifies about подгорании contacts of the relay or to failure of the starter. 5. To check up work of the electric motor of a starter it is possible short-term giving of pressure by an additional wire of the big section on contact of the traction relay from outside the electric motor. 6. If the electric motor starts to work, means, it is necessary to search for a cause of defect in the traction relay.

The starter rotates slowly and does not start the engine

The reasons of it can be the discharged accumulator, in system of greasing of the engine too dense oil is filled in, graphite brushes are insufficiently pressed to a collector of the electric motor of a starter, a bad condition of a working surface of a collector and starter bearings are worn out.

At отпускании the ignition key from position "engine start" the starter continues to work

The reasons of it can be залипание contacts of the traction relay or the lock of ignition does not disconnect a starter chain. In this case immediately to switch off ignition and to disconnect the accumulator, then to eliminate malfunction.
